The Challenge

Problem

Schools continue to advance traditional education system with the focus solely on grades and syllabus. This system misses to offer exposure, practical knowledge and awareness about things that matter in today’s dynamic world.

Besides, as of 2024-25, over 1.17 million children aged 6–14 are identified as out-of-school (OOSC) in India, and poverty, gender disparity, child labour, and lack of interest remain some of the predominant factors in this.

Our Intervention

What We Do

Run free weekend school (Sundays for Sushiksha)

On the Ground

Our Work

Empowerment through Education, founded in 2019, by sister-duo Ananya and Sanjoli Banerjee, is a free weekend school for children from all backgrounds, especially the marginalised ones including girls, economically underprivileged and Dalits. The project aims to plug the opportunity gap between lower and higher income children by making holistic education available to all.

We believe learning is more than just academics or books and extends to the real

world and hence our classes are all about financial and digital literacy, social

awareness and recreational activities. Sushiksha, entirely run by young volunteers,

aims to make the young self-reliant, politically and socially aware and responsible

citizens.

Previously run in Jaipur and Chandigarh also, it is currently active in Karnal

(Haryana) & Delhi.

(520+ students taught; 4 cities; 6 years; 1,600+ hours)
