The Challenge
Problem
- Nearly 50% of young women still use cloth.
- India has the largest adolescent population in the world - the country accounts for
20.1% of the world’s adolescent population. The health and well-being of adolescents
is a key determinant of the country’s overall health scenario.
- Only 37.52% of girls were aware of menstruation before menarche
Our Intervention
What We Do
- Run free fun & interactive workshops that bust myths and share facts on periods and
hygiene
- Partner for knowledge
- Distribute free products
On the Ground
Our Work
An initiative of Sarthi to build awareness on menstruation and menstrual hygiene, Project Buland aims to encourage habit formation in early years by introducing them to hygienic practices, and reducing risks of infections and diseases due to poor sanitary hygiene, and to empower young menstruators with knowledge so they do not operate from a space of fear or myths, but with knowledge and empowerment. We did this through our free workshops across low-income schools, shelters & slums, partnering with other NGOs, sanitary products distribution, street plays, and collaborating with medical professionals.
6,500+ pads distributed; 1,100+ adolescent girls directly impacted; 12 awareness drives
3 cities- Karnal, Delhi & Jaipur.
